One Dog Treat to Rule Them All

Taking photographs of dogs requires a few tricks to get the perfect shot, one of those is always keeping and smelling like delicious dog treats. As a general rule, the stinkier, and thus stickier the treat, the more high-value it is and the easier it would be to get a dog’s attention. Most treats use beef, chicken, or bacon to achieve this effect, many dogs love it, but a lot of dogs have allergies to these ingredients. The usage of these ingredients also presents a significant environmental impact, relying on large factory farms which consume limited water and land resources. One dog treat company has solved all three of these problems for me, and so I exclusively use their treats over all else. Chippin’ asks their customers to “Chip in” and “save the Earth!” because “it’s the only planet with dogs.” I cannot agree more with this woman-owned small business based right here in the DMV.

Sustainably Sourced Dog Treats

Chippin’ has three primary lines of effort in their business, all with the objective of a sustainably sourced treat that dogs will go wild for. The first line of defense is the Cricket protein that they use as the base for some of their most popular products, such as the Chirpy Jerky.

Cricket Protein

Cricket has a myriad of benefits over alternatives such as beef and chicken because it requires more than a hundred times less water and land resources. It’s also full of healthy nutrients to improve your pups gut health and is free of the most common allergens. Because of this, it integrates well into a hydrolyzed diet. If you see me at a dog event, this is the most likely treat you’ll see me with because of these many benefits and the fact that it does not leave a sticky residue on my hands, keeping my camera clean while I crawl around on the floor to capture the perfect shot!

Copi Fish

Some pups are particularly picky eaters and will turn up their snouts to bugs. No worries! Chippin’ has you covered there too with their invasive species line. The Copi fish (or Asian Carp) is an invasive species of fish that is overpopulating the Indiana River in the United States. This fish also happens to be a rich source of omega-3s which is just as good for our dogs as it is for people, helping to keep their skin and fur healthy and shiny. By using this fish in their treats, Chippin’ is helping to restore biodiversity while offering high value and healthy treats for the pickiest of pups, a win-win!

Spirulina

A varied diet can help our pups live happier and healthy lives. Dogs are omnivorous animals and should also incorporate some green in their diet, much like humans- it’s almost like they evolved to live with us! This is where the third line of Veggie Dailies comes in. This blue-green algae is nutrient-dense and can help curb behaviors, such as grass eating. Not only is the treat good for your pups health, the farming of spirulina absorbs CO2 from our atmosphere, helping to reverse the effects of climate change and improve the air quality for both pups and humans!
